Dr. David W. Reid, PhD, C. Psych

Research Interests
My research interests include the study of change processes in individuals, couples, families and organizations.  Accompanying these  interests is the study of the application of psychology to real life issues and in particular marital dynamics and the role of culture in everyday life.  Thus my clinical practice that  encompasses both individual and couple therapy is informed by up-to-date
developments in the science of psychology as these pertain to how human’s  function.

Professional Expertise
My professional expertise is based on training in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology, Psychodynamic psychology and especially the modern application of systems theory and social cognition to best address the complexities of human behavior that can include biological determinants as well.

Graduate Teaching and Supervision
My graduate teaching and supervision responsibilities complement my clinical expertise and ongoing research interests.  I
regularly supervise clinical graduate students in the development of their skills when working with referred clients.  I have in the past taught graduate level courses in (a) the psychology of stress (b) health psychology (c) psycho-gerontology and (d) Personality. Currently I teach a course on complex systems approach to interpersonal change. That course is about how to approach
and create interventions that accommodate to a wide variety of complex issues such as Anger management, Cultural dynamics, Health problems, Organizational consulting, Depression/Anxiety and how the mental functioning of an individual is so intertwined with their relationships with others.

Awards
I have won awards for both undergraduate teaching and graduate teaching with the latter being both the York University Award for Graduate Teaching and also the Award for Graduate Teaching conferred by the Northeast Association of all
Graduate Schools (NAGS) in the north east USA and Canada given in Boston (2003).
